Utilizing Museum Education Strategies in the College Classroom
Photography: Mentorship and Legacy, Annual Conference of the Society for Photographic Education Northeast, 2019
October 26, 2019
Chace Auditorium, Rhode Island School of Design Museum
Radical changes in education are resulting in a new generation of college students with disparate levels of academic training. How can photography professors, deeply trained in their own crafts but often self-trained in pedagogy, level the playing field? Museum education strategies are student-lead and student-empowered, based on the premise that all students posses the ability to learn. This presentation proposes museum education strategies as a tool to help level the playing field in the classroom, offering concrete strategies and addressing potential pitfalls.
